Tips and Tricks

  • If you have a Scout parent that is a good angler, it may be best to let them lead this. Fishermen are usually always willing to give instruction, especially for youth.
  • Check to see if your local DNR offers any special fishing classes or opportunities.
  • Keep in mind that some Scouts may be afraid or squeamish about fish and fishing. Do not push them too far beyond their comfortability level. Also, have parents directly involved.

Special Needs Considerations

  • Work with Scout’s with any special needs parent or guardian to determine any limitations. There are alternative methods or tools for fishing that the Scout may participate in.
  • Check your fishing site’s accessibility for any accessibility issues. Consider a dock or pier for better access.
