  2. Know the Cub Scout Six Essentials.

Tips and Tricks

  • What an excellent way to earn an Adventure prior to an overnight camping trip! Consider awarding their loop at the campout.
  • Some of these items were covered in the rank requirements. However, I do not recommend skipping them as they are lifelong camping skills/activities.
  • As the handbook indicates, learning to tie a square knot is an excellent activity.

Special Needs Considerations

  • Camping is arguably one of the hardest activities for some Scouts with Special Needs. It can also be a very rewarding experience. Work with your Council, Pack, and Scout adults to figure out how to include everyone in your camping trip. Even just being able to be part of an activity at the campsite and not stay the night might be extremely helpful to our Scouts with Special Needs.
  • Also consider this as an opportunity to come up with a Pack plan of how to be more inclusive during campouts.
