Requirements
- Discover the difference between renewable natural resources and nonrenewable natural resources.
- Learn about the three Rβs: reduce, reuse, recycle.
- Discover what happens to the recyclables in your community.
- Participate in a conservation project.
Tips and Tricks
- At least for me, I was raised on βRecycle, Reduce, Reuse.β However, the order which is taught now is the order of importance, which you can explain to your Scouts.
- The handbook recommends visiting a recycling center if possible. Iβll try that this year and let you all know. But it sounds like a fun opportunity for more inquisitive minds.
- Let your Scouts see if they can figure out a conservation project themselves. You can start by offering locations for projects and see if that sparks ideas.
Special Needs Considerations
- The conservation project may prove to be difficult for Scouts with physical limitations. Consider how to use them in the project based upon those limitations (e.g. serve as a planning leader instead of the manual labor portion).
