Requirements

  1. Discover where the water in your home comes from.
  2. Discuss how water can become polluted.
  3. Share some ways you can conserve water in your home.
  4. Discover how what in your community is treated to become safe to drink.

Tips and Tricks

  • Maybe a longshot, but if you know someone who deals in wastewater management, this is an ideal time to bring them in. I’m looking forward to bringing in my father-in-law who has a strong background in waste water management who has taught me a lot over the years!
  • Doing a little research ahead of time is required to map out where our water comes from and where it goes.
  • Some collection of materials and prep ahead of time will be required for the water pollution demonstration.
  • If you have the ability to do a tour of a waste water treatment facility, this may be an engaging way to directly connect your Scouts to their water.

Special Needs Considerations

  • If you plan to visit a waste water treatment facility it is likely ADA accessible, but worth checking ahead of time.
